Self, a licensed insurance agent, has been in the insurance business for more than 10 years, investigators said, and was formerly employed by the Kilpatrick Insurance Agency in Augusta.
The agency said it had received several complaints alleging Self had taken premium money for workers? compensation insurance policies. Agents said Self is suspected of fraudulently taking money from a business owner on the pretext of obtaining workers? compensation insurance coverage, only to provide a bogus certificate of insurance as proof of coverage.
She also is suspected of creating fraudulent documents that indicate valid workers? compensation insurance coverage for other business owners.
If any business owners in the Augusta area have purchased workers? compensation insurance through Self and suspect they might have been defrauded, they are asked to contact the State Board of Workers? Compensation?s Enforcement Division at (404) 657-7285 or (800) 533-0682.
