WASHINGTON (AP) ? A senior House lawmaker says the latest leak of celebrities' financial information is "just the beginning of the problem" when it comes to the vulnerability of U.S. computer networks.
Rep. Bob Goodlatte of Virginia, the Republican chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, mentioned the security breach at the beginning of a hearing Wednesday on cybersecurity. The incident involves at least 22 celebrities and politicians, including pro golfer Tiger Woods and first lady Michelle Obama.
Goodlatte said the U.S. has billions of dollars at stake, as foreign hackers try to steal sensitive information from businesses. A Justice Department official testifying at the hearing said the agency is, quote, "in a position to aggressively investigate and prosecute cybercrime wherever it occurs."
