A New Jersey company owes $75,000 in restitution after pleading guilty to evading full payment of workers? compensation insurance premiums.
Techdan LLC, which at the time was located in Florence, N.J., pleaded guilty in Burlington County last week to second-degree theft by deception. Superior Court Judge James W. Palmer Jr. scheduled sentencing for Nov. 16.
Under the plea agreement, Techdan must pay $75,000 in restitution.
The company admitted that between March 12, 2004 and July 5, 2007, it gave the false impression to Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. that it was entitled to lower workers? compensation premiums. Techdan admitted it under-reported the number of employees and/or misclassified the employees? occupational classes to evade paying the full amount of workers compensation.
The investigation began with a call to the insurance fraud toll-free hotline.
